“I attended sessions with Sam to overcome my fear of the dark, amongst other things. The change in myself is life changing. My fear of the dark was literally crippling me to the extent that if my partner was working late, I would be imprisoned in my own lounge, unable to go upstairs to the toilet until they returned home. As soon as dusk arrived, the curtains had to be drawn. Getting up during the night to use the loo was a nightmare as I often had to wake my partner up to accompany me. I only went out at night if I was accompanied by others. When my partner had to be admitted into hospital for an operation, I had to have all the lights on in the house in every room and only dozed on and off all night; it was exhausting!
Wow, what a difference Sam has made! I now leave the curtains open until I feel ready to close them and can look out and see the beauty of the garden at night. I visit the toilet in the night unaccompanied, and don’t need to wake my partner and turn the light on; I can walk over to the door in the dark and open it without fear. When my partner works late I am no longer a prisoner, I can walk around our home without fear, a wonderful feeling and freedom from something which has trapped me for the majority of my life.”
